(I normally don't advocate posting other people's work, especially lyrics, but this particular song holds great significance to me, both on a personal level and IC. The song is "Dark Heart Dawning", by BT)
Dark Heart Dawning
It's all good...
Clever clap of lighting Flash before the sound The dark heart is dawning There's no one else around
Violate me like an animal Like you always do While the Dark heart is dawning And the sky is as black as you
I came up in it I crash down in it It's all good I feel complete in it, I black out in it It's all good......
Burning branches of synaptic fire Surf the serotonin swells While the dark heart is dawning And cuts the wound that nothing quells Impotent in your hatred I've been cut, but never bled Though your dark heart is dawning This child can see a light ahead Though I came up in it I'm not defined by it It's all good I felt complete in it now cutting free of it It's all good
And in the age of love You came and split my heart And in the rage of love You taught the joy in pain And in the age of love I found my sacred place Where I can hide from the dark heart that's dawning like now...
Dark Heart Dawning
Calm's still coming Waves keep rising Time keeps taking her time

Lyrics and Poetry are two seperate entities. Reading poetry delves deeper, in my opinion, and is a kind of exercise to the mind. It increases your understanding. Lyrics, on the other hand, are meant to have an immediate reaction. Whether it be a story in the song or an expression of some random emotion; it has to be understood right then. If you had to listen to a song 20 times and then refer to the dictionary 5 times just to understand a new song on the radio, they would stop playing it.
That said, I'll budge. While I think "clever clap" has more value as a sound than an image, the alliteration is pleasant. There are places that would feel bogged down in a poem but with musical accompaniment are probably ideal. The last three lines are poetic.
By passing the rambling sleepiness, I like it and think it would be terrific with music. *hums*

A little over analyitic don't you think Nym? Hmm..must have been on a roll to nail Kolava like he has done to so many others. Not sure if I like that or not. ::cants her head a moment then shakes it a bit and looks at Kolava's song:: Well I like it. And I think I actually understand it. I think. Some of it anyway. Who sings it Kolava? I would be interested to hear the music with it.

The artist is "BT", on the album "Emotional Technology". It's a calm, flowing song, which is why I was so touched by it (The lyrics seem apropriate for heavy death metal, but that wouldn't have meant as much for me). It's nice to get feedback, but did anyone actually catch the IC significance?

lol... Not so much a roll as practiced, Lina. I've been a member of poetry boards for much longer than I've been in RP. If there is anything I am good at, it's criticizing And I haven't a clue on the IC reference. Well, I am fairly certain it has something to do with Nadar... maybe. Considering what he is he could very appropriately be refered to as a dark heart.
