( this started out as a bet between my english teacher and i. we were reading some works of shakespeare, and we hit romeo and juliet. as most of you know, act iii doesn't have a prologue. well, my teacher challenged me to write a prologue for the act, and i did. he gave me lots of extra credit. xD i guess he thought it was decent. too bad that it doesn't have iambic pentameter)
Between thy swords, a duel of looming death Whose acrid tunes cry out from sharpened tips, And now, Alas! The cease of glorious breath From dear Mercutio's quaking, pallid lips. A mask of rage envelopes Romeo’s countenance And draws his sword doth he! ‘Til Tybalt lie slain in body, soul, and essence And then thou Romeo doth flee! “ ‘Tis banished! ” Prince Escalus solemnly sighs Exiling Romeo from thy fair city, And O! The heartsick tears that sweet Juliet cries For her heart is coursed with pity. Alas! Juliet dost face her own web of tangled deceit As her parents hath cast a noble suitor! To wed Paris – Juliet canst thou no longer remain discreet About her marriage with Romeo set in pewter! She must obey, or face a life of fear Let us see how the tale will be made clear.
