“Marcia! Hurry up in there!” Scolded Josie, she truly was like a second mother to me. Like Sandy I knew her in high school, longer than I’ve known Sandy for I knew Josie since junior high. I knew her for 14 years now, talk about long engagement. She had gone to college; we kept in touch, for so long she couldn’t make up her mind what in the world to do for a living. Then one day she finally made up her mind, to a doctor but she wanted to go to small towns were treatment was hard to find, so she came to my little town where I’d already set up a cabin to share with Sandy. We all agreed we needed space from the chaotic life of the city, to work, to help, to live in our own way. She was the town’s resident MD, many hospitals wanted her, but she set up her own hospital in the middle of the tiny town. She made sure she was fully stocked with supplies, when she ordered, she made sure she had extra medicine and it was nice we had a doctor who could make house calls.
I finished combing my black shoulder length tresses, pushing all but two thick strands behind my ears, letting them frame my face. I pulled out a black Japanese style shirt and black jeans, my dressing style hadn’t changed much since I’d moved; I was still quick, the only thing was I had gotten darker clothes.
“OK, I’m almost done here Josie, keep your lid on.” I shouted back to her I began to tie on my running shoes. I got up and hurried out the door, over to my room to grab my backpack.
“Hey, Marcia, you got a visitor!” Shouted Sandy. Who was it? Maybe Joe took in a night flight because he was so worried for me.
I quickly went to the front door with a grin, Sandy pointed to the living room and I looked inside. My smile faded to a grim frown and glare as I saw Davan sitting on the couch in his Armani suit, he was talking to Josie and he was all nice and gentleman like to her. A wolf in sheep’s clothing, and I felt so pissed of that he would enter my home. I kept thinking, what are you up to you bastard? Why are you here in the daylight? He could walk around in the daylight but he had no powers of any kind say to capture human eyes, and he was the biggest flirt in history, or at least mine. I was so furious at him for coming here.
“Oh, here she is. This is the artist of the house, Marcia Neumann, famous mythic artisan.” They both looked to me, Josie with her sweet smile and Davan with his sly grin. I swear that idiot wolf stepped into the lion’s den and I sure as hell was pissed but I just gave a stern glance to him.
“She is more beautiful than the newspaper described, she herself is a living piece of art.” He spouted poetry, my face didn’t show any kindness and both my friends had puzzled faces. I knew I had to get either them out of here or get him out. Guess which one my choice was?
“Hello, sir. Come let us talk in private, do you want to go for a stroll?” I hid the anger in my voice, and that took will alone.
“It would be my pleasure, Ms. Neumann.” He smiled and stood up, gliding towards me.
“And that’s a Miss as in she’s single!” I winced as Sandy shouted that, oh why not toss me into a pit of vipers as well, but it didn’t matter, as he would never win my heart.
I opened the door and hurried out with him, down a path. We were clearly out of sight of the cabin, the birds chirping and the sun shining, as it was almost noon.
“No words to thrash me with, Rose?”
“Don’t you dare say my middle name, you have no right to it. Why did you enter my home, Davan? I told you and Caine, I want nothing to do with either of you.”
“But you are stuck with us, as long as you have the mark of the werewolf you will need us, either to understand or be protected.”
“What?” I glanced at him after I heard what he said, “Why do I need your protection?”
“Other packs and clans will wish to recruit you or if you do not join, you will be hunted. Marcia, you are no longer safe in this isolated area.”
“You mean I either put myself under your protection or die? I’d rather fight my own battles.”
“And what of the two girls at the cabin? They will not be safe either; you are putting them in danger. So will you join our pack?”
I stopped, clenching my hands into fist as my nails began to bite into my palm, feeling as though they’d bled as I glared at him. That not a very nice person, the friggin’ bastard knew that I had not told Sandy or Josie what was going on with me. I was cornered by secrecy and mystery, lies will come and bite you in the ass if you never tell the truth and keep the others in the darkness of ignorance. He was staring at me with that smug face filled with glory of victory. I lifted a fist to swing at him, ready to knock his head off and watch it roll on the ground; his mouth agape with horror. I just gave a snort at him, turned by back to him facing a tree before me.
“Fine, you win, you bastard. But if you do not protect my friends as well you will surely live to regret this deal.”
“Lets shake on it, to seal the deal, right?” He extended that pale thick hand, as I grimaced and slapped my hand into his. I gripped it hard and amazed to fine out the vampire was sweating. He was worried, at other times I would be great full that I made him worry, but somehow I knew it wasn’t me who did it.
