Sleeping there within that dark forbidding coffin, asleep perhaps but her mind was still conscious of the recent events that had taken form and shaped themselves into the bright present. The cerebral cortex played images, mostly of each pard member. First there was Nik, always Nik came first in a way before any of the other members. He was special to her; he had been so loyal and courageous. But he had also been submissive, like a kitten in her lap but he’d grown up. She’d loved calling him ‘kitten’ as it was his special pet name she had given him. But now it just did not suit his nature, he had grown. But she felt that tingle of regret. Regret that he was no longer hers. Yes, he was still a strong member of the pard but she’d seen the closeness of Kahlan and Nik. She never denied him anything, nor would she ever do so. If she spoiled anyone it would be him.
She thought of Kahlan, that sweet girl who had never been among other lycanthropes and was still adjusting to it all. She hoped the girl would find this place as a home, this city, these people who loved and cared for her. That tail, obviously she’d been in her form too much but it gave her a cuteness atmosphere. She at least hoped Kahlan and Nik would become mates if anything.
Her thoughts drifted to Frankie, another alpha in the group who seemed to be much like her. Hiding those emotions, not wanting to seem weak and yet that also could be a weakness. But she had opened up to the female, telling her things about her past like some mere bedtime story. The life of a vampire as a bedtime story, how funny that seemed.
She thought of Nime, who was more or less closer to what Nik had been only more childish and humorous. One of the only innocents in the group and he was like the kid. She could see how Frankie had protected this one, and see how Nime looked up to the other leopard. She had to get to know them both; she did not want to lose touch with anyone in the pard.
Then there was Vivian, who also used Jon for sexual purposes. She didn’t mind, Jon had that arduer and when she was asleep and could not sate it for him Vivian was his other option. That law form was nearly finished, the painters were there placing color, dark blue for Kahlan’s room, another dark blue for her and Jon. Black for Nime and Frankie, dark green for Nikolas and a dark purple for Vivian. The top floor had stairs that lead to the rooftop. Soon they would all be moved home, their new home that would be more or less like a play ground but also with security measures. There would be a pass code to get pass the 4th floor. Each other her kittens would be given the code name and lectured on not to tell it to anyone but pard members. If there are ones who wish to be members they must meet me first before coming to the lair. It was like someone had cut the deck, when Nik had been taken she now was going to make sure they told her where they were going or at least how long they might be. Over protective? Yes. She just did not want to lose anyone else.
Nik, did he even want her to feed from him every again? She wondered if Kahlan would mind. When she woke up she would look for a cabin where those kittens might take a trip. At least so they could have time together away from distractions. A vacation.
Oh my sweet Nikolas, how I’ve failed you in the past. I promised to keep you safe and I didn’t keep it. Can you ever forgive me? Forgive me for your dismal memories that must haunt you. Nik. I’m sorry. I’m so sorry. I never meant for any of this to happen. Forgive me. Please.
A single red tear leaked from one corner of her eye as it ran down her face. She was glad Jon was not in the coffin, for now she just wanted to cry alone in her sleep of death.
