Year of the Fallen Star
Citizens of the Republic, Allies and Friends,
Fear is something that even the strongest face at times, and it is something that has weaved it's way into the Republic recently in different forms. Not only have we been faced with war in the south in Quirilia (which I am assured is a winning battle now by our most efficient High Sentinel, thank Providence!), but the Eastern seas off Ravenscrest hold an enemy that threaten their shores as well now. Not withstanding outside forces attacking us, we have suffered a blow to our animal population with an unknown disease striking at our precious birds, killing immense amounts of them and almost taking the lives of some of our most loved citizens. But, we should grab hold of our fears, and build Hope into our hearts. Fear doesn't have to be a bad thing, it can be a driving force, to develop hope for something better, or a driving force to develop a better world around us. Remember, as I once heard, "We cannot escape fear. We can only transform it into a companion that accompanies us on all our exciting adventures."

The Oak Moon is our full moon this month on the 15th, and we are well into the season of Frost. This full moon's focus is on rebirth and new beginnings, as well as shapeshifting. Such spells done under an Oak Moon will find a great boost to their magics.
Winter Solstice is on the 21st, if you have been holding off on feeding the birds and beasts so they go south for winter, then it is on the solstice that our "snow angels" can begin to be fed again, as all that will have gone south will have gone by now. This is the longest night of the year, the darkest night of the year. A time of rebirth, for as the sun finally emerges the days begin to slowly become longer again, and we look forward to the coming spring once more. It also happens to be the first day of our Yuletide Season.
The Republic is growing by leaps and bounds, please make our new citizens welcome. House Elensar, Kingdom of Tuatha, and Lords of the Fallen, we welcome you to our family. Please choose a member of your lands to represent yourselves on our high council, so that you have a voice in the goings on in the republic.

What are you seeking in a man, looks, personality, wealth, etc wise? I may seem a bit low, but its only natural to be attracted to somebody by their looks, so Looks, Personality is a definite plus. Wealth isn't love, it can bring you the things you want but cant bring you happiness.
What is the first thing you notice when you meet a man? His eyes. The eyes are a window to the soul.
What sorts of things causes you to dislike a man? If his personality isn't good.
What are three traits the man you are with has to have? Good cook *wink* Good fighter, knows how to keep themselves happy and well built.
What's your favorite food? Chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy.
Would you consider yourself an easy woman to get along with or high maintenance? Easy woman to get along with..People are so cruel to me..but I'm still nice to every one of them. I'm very nice unless you betray me or anything of the sort. I may forgive, but I will never forget.
What's your pet peeve? Clothes all around on the floor..food everywhere..and using dirty soap somebody else has used.
Are you religious? Hmm..I suppose I am. Im not totally religious.
What's the most important thing in your life? Family before anything ; my friends, my skills, my guild.
Do you like children, do you want children in your future? (or do you have children now?) I have one baby girl, Madison.
Cuddling by the fire, riding horses across the field or sparring in the arena? Cuddling, Riding Horses, AND sparring in the field!
Worst memory you have of something a man did to you, that you don't want to have repeated? He dated me, gave me children and left with one of them. Ugh. Please don't do this to me if you're interested.

CONTESTS and COMPETITIONS
December Hooks Contest
Welcome to the December Hooks challenge for the members of Umbra Victus. Every month, you'll be given two to three "hooks" to develop into storylines and adventures. You do NOT have to hold QM regs to run these adventures! Just, take the hook given, and come up with a good SL or mini-adventure, and gather your friends and run it!
The rules are simple:
1. You may not have less than three members in each group, and no more than six.
2. Your mini-SL / Adventure cannot run less than one hour or more than two hours in length. You must state the hook at the beginning of your log and the time, and the time at the end, or the log will not count.
3. Submit your logs in email form ONLY (no downloads, no exceptions) to Exalted Emerald. You will receive xp/gp for your hook quest, according to how well it was done. Anywhere from 1,000xp to 4,000xp will be given to each participant.
4. You may participate in all hooks each month, only once.
5. List all participants that stayed the entire time at the beginning of your log.
6. Turn your logs in by the last day of the month.
December Hooks!
1. A murder mystery that is being investigated leads to a particularly large corpse storehouse (a large morgue) run by law enforcement, yet you stumble on a gruesome scene. The kindly old clerk is hunched over one body with a saw, and has already mutilated several other bodies in storage there. After the clerk is apprehended, it's known this behavior is WELL out of character for the kindly old man, you decide someone or something must have induced him to perform these awful acts.
2. In a quiet forest village, druids become concerned about the poaching of good creatures in the woods. They ask for help in investigating this crime. It turns out someone's buying up pixie wings, giant eagle feathers, raven beaks, and unicorn horns and payment has been in the form of letters of credit from a well known University...
3. Now that snow has fallen in some areas of the Republic, odd ice formations have begun to take shape around the edges of some of the lakes and rivers. What's the cause? Does it mean anything?

MARTIAL ARTS

•Kung Fu
(modern style, formatted for play in UV)
Kung Fu is sometimes viewed as the Chinese version of Karate. Many styles are patterned after the movements of animals. Soft Kung Fu emphasizes speed, accuracy and agility. Some animals that are used as models for Soft Kung Fu include Monkey, Snake, and Crane, among others. Hard Kung Fu is a style that emphasizes power and strength. Some examples of Hard Kung Fu animals are Tiger, Eagle, and Leopard, among others.
Techniques: Disable, Escape Hold, Kick, Strike, Takedown (soft)
Techniques: Block, Jump Kick, Kick, Knee Strike, Strike (hard)
Prerequisites: None.
Special Ability (this style-specific ability may be chosen only by this style's practitioners):
>>Jumping Knee Strike: A more powerful version of the Knee Strike. The attacker propels himself towards his opponent, jumping slightly off the ground. He then plows his knee into the victim, with the added force of the jump. This adds a 2d10 roll to your hit.

You've got to be able to be creative, be descriptive, create a gemstone SN, and make a new character that is of the kh'ronen race and you're expected to learn the culture and history of that people. It's also a self sufficient SL meaning, you make your character and interact with us all within UV and beyond but if you can't play your character on your own, and expect us to create roleplay for you constantly, this isn't the SL for you. The Dark Spider Inne is a three storey wood and stone structure designed to house a variety of pastimes and pleasures for the common man (please note, that does not include anything illegal!). The Somber Woods Inn is a quiet, peaceful place for a drink or just to meet people for a bit of conversation. The inn is located on the outskirts of Oshenna's boundaries within the Somber Woods Forest. Old News for New Members
Don't forget that if you delete official UV mail, you will be warned once, and if you continue to delete our mail, you'll be removed from the forum.
Freelancers need to have their freelance number in their PROFILE (it can be in black/white and hidden) and guild / clan members must have their guild or clan information with UV as forum listed in their profiles or web pages, as per the rules of your particular guild or clan. But, it has to be somewhere. Some guilds choose to allow the info to be placed on the web site. If so, please be sure that's stated in the rules of your guild or clan.
All within Umbra Victus have a total of 4 rezzes that are allowed for their character. This does not include mock wars. This *does* include dying on a quest. Your fifth death in UV is considered perma-kill, you are given no more rezzes. Once you have been rezzed in UV, you state in your profile your rezz # such as [1/4 Rezzes].
Everyone starts at d20. You have to earn your dice. Dice are assigned this way in UV:
2d for mortals/humans/normal animals
3d for halfies/elves/shapeshifters/were-creatures of any type
4d for supernaturals such as dragons, vampires, angels, demons and the like.
(If you have a question as to what dice your race would have, feel free to ask. A good rule of thumb for questionable characters, and the formula we use is this: Take the mother's race and father's race, and the dice are the lowest. For instance, you have a werecat(3d) and a dragon(4d) -- their child would be 3d. If you have a mortal (2d) and an immortal (4d) then the child would be 3d, in the middle.)
