Red White and Brother
For Zack
If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed,
ye shall say unto this mountain,
Remove hence to yonder place;
and it shall remove;and nothing
shall be impossible unto you. - Matthew 17:20
Mustard seeds cure cancer, honest
it said so. Right here: unique healing
properties. There is this really long word
and they have it, they have it and it
inhibits cancer. White mustards seeds,
but they are really yellow, come
from the Mediterranean and get used in
hot dog mustard. Black seeds
come from the middle east. They
are pungent. The Romans and the Greeks
used mustard in medicine. I assume not
the black variety.
Mustard seeds are important. Critical.
They reduce asthma, decrease arthritis, lower
high blood pressure, heighten low sleep patterns
infrequent migraines and prevent heart attack.
Mustard seeds are important. A good source of
iron and calcium and zinc and manganese. Mustard seeds
are critical.
Important, you see.
They aren't so big a deal, not like bullets and
tanks or even bombs and radioaction. They
aren't big at all. Little, in fact, one of
the smallest seeds. But, when placed in the ground,
when covered and cared for, they grow
ten to fifteen feet tall. They shelter birds.
So, let us drop mustard seeds on the desert, let
the people dump them into their living room floors
with the sand, like our elementary students
do coming home from school
with shoes filled with recess. Let seeds and sands
be intermingled and the desert grow
twenty feet high.
A nation cannot trust in only a seed, even one
that cures cancer. Even if sent down plane loads at a time.
A sister, however, can trust in a seed, to place it
on her brother's neck, and know she is sending
a mustard seed to the desert. There will be training
and hard work. There will be caution. But a seed
will move mountains and, since it can do that,
it will carry him home. His faith will bring him back.
