He'd been tired of sitting around the castle, pacing and drinking klah. Finally he had thrown on his cloak and headed off to the forest. With no one following, he sets off at a brisk pace, letting the movement of his lean muscles warm his body as he traveled. Soon he's deep in the heart of the forest, among the age old pines and oaks. Quite warm now despite the cold, he stops to sit upon a boulder. Somewhere nearby the flower bloomed. It's presence beckoning to him. He's not sure who to tell, none of the other survivors of that mad journey were around. Syn and Lina were off battling Death, no one else would understand. Unable to stop for long, compelled to find the blossom, he searches about, knowing it was here somewhere. Finding it at last, he inhales sharply. It was beautiful in it's sinister uglyness, a vision from another plane, a lotus of immense power. Afraid to get too near, he leans against a tree as he stares. It was true, what he'd felt yesterday. The black lotus had returned.
It wasn't so much the flower itself, but the nexus it represented. A gateway to that topsy-turvy realm that the Kolava had come from. Should he go seek him? Was the Kolava going to come again?
It was hard to describe the feelings that washed over the youth as he sat watching the nexus. Anxiety, longing, hope and fear all commingled in a jumble of thoughts. Random images of the creature come to mind, the image of that face at the foot of their bed as they were interrupted while making love makes him smile. He sets wards around the flower, knowing that to move it might be to destroy it, to touch it might activate the nexus, sending him into that awful realm, he is careful not to get too close. Any nearby movement would set off the wards, alerting him instantly.
Next, he fixes the spot in his mind. Making a clear mental picture of the area so that he might return via teleport spell if the wards were ever triggered. He's unsure if he should hope for it. Undoubtedly the Kolava's return would bring trouble along with it. And yet, for a creature, he'd nearly been Nicho's best friend, a comfort when no words would do.
