It was early morning and already the rider was creeping from the marriage bed, quietly getting dressed and making it a point to pause and watch Syn's face as he slept. Her husband. Tenderly she moved her fingers to touch his cheek and brush his dark hair back behind his ear. As she did it, the faint light coming from the window behind her shone off the set of rings on her left hand. With a smile, she rose and made her way out leaving even Lapis to sleep.
Her boots were soon damp from moving through the morning dew on the grass, having made her way past Eirik moist and sleeping form in the fields and through the woods. Not even her cats were awake now, the mountain lions napping in the trees deeper in the woods. Prince Frog was probably someplace warm and the new duck and rabbit were still in the mage tower with her husband. She was completely alone, her mind mentally running towards the silver hatchling she'd raised as well as reaching to tentatively touch Angel's mind to see if she also slept. Lady would probably be awake but unless Nym needed her she was fairly certain the firelizard would be more concerned with catching her breakfast than seeing what the rider was occupied with.
Once her mind was at rest to those matters, she hovered her hand over her pendant that stayed hidden in her blouse, listening to it. Even this magical item seemed to change with Xia's magical addition inside her body, the pendant seeming to whisper to her when she wasn't paying attention. The children felt well and safe which allowed their mother to relax and carry on until she got to the waterfalls. Sitting by the water's edge and looking at her reflection in the water, she took a shaky breath and started to talk aloud. "I wish you'd been there, Jassie," she said, her eyes seeming to focus past the reflection and deeper into the water. "I wish you'd been there to speak to when I first realized how I felt about him. I wish you'd been there when I was confused and needed guidance. I wish you'd seen me make my promise."
Her voice had started to shake slightly with her words and with a blink of her eyes the tears that had started to make her reflection blur fell, making her see clear once more and hitting the water. She watched the small ripples, knowing that now her pain and heartache was the pool's as well. Then she smiled, feeling the hurt liften a little at the sense that it was shared. "He is beautiful, Jassie. He really is. The type of eyes that make your heartbreak just looking at them," she'd settled back, making herself comfortable as she talked to the water as though it were her dead sister, hoping that Jasmine were someplace listening. "I.. well, I've never said good bye to you, sister mine. I never wanted to admit that you were gone. I think I'm ready now, though. I just wanted you to know that you can rest in peace, that all those you loved love you still in memory, but they are happy and you can rest." She had always wondered about that, knowing her sister wouldn't rest in death so long as those she loved were miserable.
Standing, she looked up at the waterfall, the underside of the clouds overhead scraped in pink, gold lining through the sky. It was breathtaking, this first morning as Lady Thornheart. She knew, looking at it and then out into the woods where the sunrays pierced through the fog that remained, the entire atmosphere serene and beautiful, that this was the life she'd been meant to lead. A sense of contentment came over her and she started back down the path to the castle and the mage tower, the world around her coming alive with the morning.
