I always walked to the Dojo so I had a long walk back to the cabin, I had on my black jacket covering my Japanese style shirt, boots of black and one hand holding the strap that hung on my right shoulder. I looked up at the sky as the branches of the trees shaded me protectively, it was dark all right. I used to be afraid of walking along in my own backyard but I soon got over it, the key was to have a normal life. Of course that no longer applied to me, now did it? Here I was away from my birth home, no boyfriend with a vampire and Ulfric trying to win me over, how dull my life was when I was frightened of shadows. No I had real things to settle, although people would think I was crazy. I had to figure out what made Davan so nervous, he was a vampire and sure he looked human at daytime but he was still undead.
“Hey, Marcia!” Shouted a voice as I was so rudely jerked from my thoughts I instantly pulled my sword to my hand and got in a defense stance. Then I saw it was the only most annoying, strangest person I had ever met, the idiot Nathan that I always called Nate.
“Gods, Nate, don’t you know its insane to jump an armed woman?”
“Only if she was my girlfriend and she had a gun to blow my brains out,” he grinned like the fool he was.
“Still, you got no brains so it would be useless and messy.”
“And a sword isn’t?”
“Nope,” I smirked and side stepped him, walked beside him. “It would leave a nice clean mark and harder to identify the weapon as it still leaves the grisly remains on the floor.” So I had a way with horrific poetry, thanks to all those horror movies I watched.
I kept walking pass Nate as his face froze in shock, then he woke up and caught up to me. He was strangely quiet for an annoying guy most of the times he hung around me, it was strange because he was shy around everyone else. I kept my sword in hand, as the silence was growing too much for me, Nate was a never ending talking machine or moving around in some way; I was worried.
“So, what’s wrong Nate?” I asked in a concerned voice, not stopping to glance at him.
“The werewolves are tense and the vampires are nervous,” he uttered, and I came to a halt.
“How do you know that?”
“It’s in the air, but you could find out you know.”
“How? Wait, how in hell do you know of my link to the wolves?” I asked, turning to face him.
“I’ve always known, and it’s why I hang around you so much.”
“So, you knew…” I grabbed the short black haired boy by his collar pulling him to me with a snarl, “You bastard, why didn’t you tell me?”
“Would you have believed me?” He stuttered, damn him, I tossed him down into the dirt road.
“But you could have given me a hint before I found out the wrong way, now tell me this Nathan.” I asked, or rather demanded; when I said his whole name it meant I was serious in my task. “Do you know of a man named Caine?”
“A man he may look but a monster he is, to swell with power as much as his ego is.” He said and I sighed softly drawing away from him.
I decided to try out this link, I closed me eyes and let my ears, and all my senses listen to the air around me. I felt the orb glow, hot and fold flashes and the intangible scent of fur. I pushed harder, and I felt my heart pounding, the winds flowing through my fur? It was not I, I was in a werewolf and it was racing. It was scared, something dangerous was behind it and the werewolf let out a short howl calling to the others. I awoke from that strong link and still a bit connected I let out a return howl to the wolf. I blinked and shook my head.
“See, they call and you respond.”
“Something is after it, whether or not it’s a curse they are still human at some point,” I strapped the sword over my head on my right shoulder and coming under my left.
I sensed in which direction the howl came from and burst into a strong jog, as I raced to help the poor canine. I didn’t realize it, but I still had the after instincts from the link, I never tripped, stumbled or ran into anything as I made my way to the danger. I saw the large gray wolf, I knew it for a she-wolf, and behind it was a were-cat in its full leopard mutated form. I jumped up unto a low branch, unsheathing my blade and as they passed I leapt into the air and slashed the cat’s face. Then I landed with a roll on my shoulder and saw two more felines following the wolf. No wonder it ran, it was out numbered and I stupidly got into a battle I knew I couldn’t win.
I stood in my defense crouch, a black male whom I wounded in one eye, followed by two friends of brown and yellow fur. One female charged at me which I dodged and knocked a kick into its head as I spun a roundhouse kick with my other leg. I hit the other female in the jaw, as the male rushed at me lifting my hand that held my sword and I sliced out its left arm. It yowled in pain, as I was pummeled to the ground by one of the females and she pinned my arms down. She began to lean in for the kill, when a gray blur flew by taking her down. I only had time to take a glimpse at the biting of claws, fur and sharp teeth mixed with deadly growls. I grabbed my blade; the male and I zoomed at each other in what seemed a game of chicken.
My heart was racing, my muscles tensed as my power flew around me as I ran towards what could be my death and I held my sword into him as we passed each other. We landed as we stared into each other’s eyes; a few drops of blood fell to the ground as the were-cat’s body crashed to the ground. My sword sticking out of his now unmoving chest as blood flowed from the deep wound. I glanced at the females who stopped fighting and the were-cats ran back into the woods.
I winced as I felt my bruises and tiny scratch on my left arm, all in all a good fight but boy did I hurt. The she-wolf gave me a nudge; I offered a weak smile and looked back at the corpse. What was a huge feline the size of a huge horse; was now a huge naked man lying in a pool of blood. I walked to the body and jerked my blade free, wiping the blood off onto the grass. I put the sword away, glanced at the she-wolf, turned and began to walk away.
