I saw War of the Worlds two nights ago. Here's my critique.
Pros: Awesome scenery Good dialogue Really awesome acting Very suspenseful moments (I think I would develop an ulcer if I had to watch that movie everyday)
Cons: The... plot.
Really, the plot didn't make a lot of sense at all (I'm mostly referring to how the aliens were "defeated"). I don't want to spoil it, but I'll just say, at the end, I was like, "What?!". Not only that, but the entire ending in itself is just... not believable (It's ok that Tom Cruise is dirty, bloody, and half dead, as is 90% of the world, but in Boston, there's one house that's been untouched, and the entire family inside is wearing clean clothes, make up, and their hair is up! Wow! They weren't even touched by the aliens that blew up the rest of the earth!).
Other than that, it's still pretty good. Oh, and of course, Spielberg strayed from the fact that "War of the Worlds" is an allegory, but... that doesn't matter, I s'pose.

It's suspenseful, but I'm still sticking to my opinion that the plot was pretty awful and the ending a biiiiit too unbelievable.

I'm off to see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Not really looking forward to it, Johnny Depp looks frightening, and I'm not a big fan of Tim Burton trying to make the movie macabre (although that is the point). I'll update later. - grumbles, gets dragged off to see dumb movie -

Well? Did you see it, Cherise? Give us the skinny. I have no desire to see it whatsoever. I love Johnny Depp, but I love the tv version of the story better. Maybe I'll just rent it when it comes out on DVD.
